Abstract:An old Yiddish proverb says, "The eyes are the mirror of the soul", and they are. Eyes can captivate an audience and express what words may not be able to deliver. A word expressed upon the sincerity of the eyes will allow the words spoken to reach the minds of those they are spoken to.
The book written by Allan & Pease is filled with fascinating insights, humorous observations, and simple strategies that you can apply to any situation. This intriguing book will enrich your communication with and understanding of others as well as yourself. In China, Deng Yanchang’s interpretation of the differences of eye contact among countries impressed me deeply. He adopted large quantity of examples to explain different uses of body languages in different countries.
Many people have been engaged in the study of verbal communication which has been generally recognized as a branch of science. The influence and importance of learning nonverbal communication may be overlooked. Eye contact, in particular, plays an important role in nonverbal communication. Eyes can reveal moods and feelings as well as intentions and interest. For example, if a person is having a one-on-one conversation, yet is looking around and not at the person to whom he or she is speaking, it might tell you that the sender is more interested in something else. Yet social interaction depends heavily on physical actions. Words are good for facts and data, but without human gestures, our social life would become a cold and mechanical process.
