Abstract:This paper discusses the feature of Mary Barton’s female consciousness from three aspects: challenge of patriarchy, rational consciousness of pursuing true love and self-realization of Mary Barton. Mary’s female consciousness is not mature because she is in the initial stage of awakening. She fears of the strange world outside, she doesn't care about social affairs and she has no will to get involved in political life. However, her character of self-reliance and adamance, her active action and her indomitable and determined spirit inspire women to realize their further development and self-realization in a wider world outside the family.

摘 要:这篇文章从玛丽·巴顿挑战父权，理性地追求真爱以及玛丽·巴顿的自我实现三方面探究玛丽的女性意识特征。但是玛丽的女性意识处于觉醒阶段，她惧怕外面的新世界，不关心社会与阶级生活，没有参与政治生活的意愿，故而她的女性意识尚未成熟。然她所表现出的自立、坚强的品格以及积极的行动能力与执着不屈的精神仍然给人以启迪，激励女性向家庭以外的更广阔的天地发展自我，实现自我。
