Abstract:Idioms, as the cream of language and the “living fossil” of culture, reflect many aspect of culture. Thus diet culture which is an important part of culture is also mirrored strongly and vividly by idioms. Both English and Chinese idioms carry the dietary culture of each nation. So the comparative study on dietary culture from idioms will help us to know the differences of dietary culture between the West and the East, and promote the study of idioms. Furthermore, it will be a leading hand for students to understand the close relationship between idioms and diet culture, language and culture. At the same time, it advocates students and teachers to pay more attention to cultural factors behind language, and change their learning and teaching methods in order to increase their cultural awareness and intercultural communicative ability.

摘要:习语是语言的精华，也是文化的“活化石”，它反映着文化的各个方面。饮食文化作为文化的一个重要组成部分，其也被习语广泛、鲜明的反映着。无论是英语习语还是汉语习语，都承载着本民族各具特色的饮食文化。从一个新的视角—英汉习语，来对比中西饮食文化，既可探讨其中的饮食文化差异，促进习语的学习，又可进一步的理解习语与饮食文化的紧密关系。同时又可增强学生和教师自身的文化意识，促使他们改进学习及教学方法，提高跨文化交际的能力。
