Abstract: As we all know The Merchant of Venice is one of Shakespeare’s most important works. It is a comedy. The theme of this play is to extol kindheartedness, friendship and love. It also reflects the conflicts between the capitalists and usurers at the beginning of the capitalist society. This thesis tries to analyze the tragedy of Shylock in the play by researching into his living environment in the historical, religious, economic and political aspects.

摘要：众所周知，《威尼斯商人》是莎士比亚著名喜剧之一。 该剧弘扬了善良、友谊和爱情，反映了资本主义早期资产阶级同高利贷者间的矛盾冲突，本文通过历史上、宗教上、经济上以及政治上四方面的状况来分析夏洛克的悲剧性。
