Abstract:With the growing trans-culture communication, especially the speedy growth of the tourism business, more and more overseas tourists come to Nanjing. The Chinese and English bilingual public signs in the scenic spots become a good choice to know about the attraction. This thesis, taking the English translation of Nanjing tourism public signs as an example, checks the quality of translation texts, including indicative signs, warning signs, prohibitive signs whether have these problems, such as the deficiency of cultural connotation, using Chinese Pinyin instead of English, literal translation, Chinese English, non-standard translation, etc. This thesis analyzes the problems and puts forward some more accurate and practical English translation.
