Abstract:It is known to all, the United States is today's world power. The United States is a more young and more prosperous country than other countries. It has a unique history and national character.Individualism is one of the main characteristics of American culture and the main value in America. Individualism emphasizes on personality and uniqueness. In some degree, we can say it has influenced all the fields of American society, from economy to policy. Studying American individualism is of great significance to our understanding of the United States and American culture. For this idea, this paper will analyze it from three different parts. Chapter one will discuss the definition of Individualism, especially American Individualism as well as the development of American Individualism. Chapter two will focus on the origin of the American Individualism,from religion origin to economic origin. Chapter three will take a look at the effect of American Individualism on the American society. My paper here is trying to understand American Individualism systematically and deeply,  analyze the American Individualism through multiple aspects, in order to help us treat American Individualism with a view of dialectic. Studying the American Individualism can help our Chinese can learn from it properly, meanwhile, we can take the essence and discard the dross.
