Abstract:This study explores the teaching of English as an international language in China. With the promotion of English's international status, how to develop China's English education is a question worth considering.
By referring to the notion of EIL(EIL is the abbreviation form for English as an International Language) and existing research on EIL teaching , this paper analyzes the English teaching policy direction, English teaching materials, teaching methods, teaching ideas in EIL context and the future developing trend of English Teaching in China. According to the notion of EIL, English teaching should aim at cultivating students' intercultural communication competence; English teachers respect different variants of English and form a distinctive style of English teaching.
