Abstract: From the perspective of autonomous learning, this paper, based on the investigation carried out in a secondary school in Suqian, studies the teachers' roles in the process of cultivating junior middle school learners’ the habit of autonomous learning . It provides an exposition of teachers' understanding of the concepts of students’ autonomous learning and probes into the reasons for stressing the autonomous learning. It points out that autonomous learning, the demands of social, educational and individual development, is essential for evaluating the junior secondary learner’s learning ability. Learners’ character difference, learning strategies, motivation and attitudes towards learning influence their initiatives to learn autonomously. To help the junior middle school learners form the habit of autonomous learning, teachers should ignite their passion for study as guides, facilitators and participants as well. To sum up, teachers should realize and strengthen the importance of autonomous learning in teaching. They should also timely adjust their roles to cultivate students' autonomous learning awareness according to the individual differences of students.
