Abstract: On the basis of previous studies, the paper aims to analyze the application of black humor in the novel The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn. The study will be carried out from two aspects. The first is the application of language, to be exact, the absurd language and dialects. Mark Twain uses a large number of dialects to portray the image of different characters. The second is the application of rhetorical devices. Mark Twain uses a lot of irony which expresses the viewpoint critically and conveys author’s ideas directly. There are some other rhetorical devices used in the novel, such as hyperbole, oxymoron, and contrast and so on. The author shows the back humor profoundly by using these rhetorical devices.
