摘要
本文介绍了清末铜元的兴衰及原因。清末随着经济的发展制钱制度崩溃，铜元作为一种新型的辅币迅速取代制钱，但是在当时的社会条件下，铜元虽然有着先进性，但仍然没有逃脱失败的命运。对于清末铜元制度失败，很大一部分原因是私铸、滥铸，但是在私铸滥铸背后还隐藏着更为深刻的原因，那就是中央和地方对于余利的争夺导致中央法令不能行于地方，各省之间互分畛域使得铜元流通更加混乱，清末朝野人士认识上的误区导致铜元问题不能得到根本解决，但归根到底还是腐朽的政治制度严重制约了经济改革。
