Abstract:John Keats, as one of the outstanding English poets and a major figure in the romantic period, lived only twenty-six years but has left a lot of influential theories to the world. Among all his theories, “negative capability” was the most crucial one, which has influenced a lot of successors of literary field. This paper will talk about some background of the theory such as the origin and the nature of the theory. And also the main concepts of “negative capability”—negation of the poet and in his poems, imagination and beauty as well will also be focused in this paper. “Negative capability” in this paper will be implicated by the three parts through Keats’s famous “Ode to a Nightingale” and also some other works. And also we will see how Keats implemented this theory into his works so as to help us better understand the “positive elements”—imagination and beauty in his works. With his holy heart, Keats indeed prolonged his life through poetry and became immortal in our mind.

摘要:约翰·济慈是英国浪漫主义时期的主要代表者之一，虽然他的生命只有短短的二十六年，却给世界留下了许多颇具影响力的理论。“反面感受力”是其中最重要的一个，给许多文学界的后人带来了深远影响。本论文介绍一些“反面感受力”理论的背景，例如它的来源以及本质。主要是在济慈的作品“夜莺颂”中，讨论这个理论所涵盖的三个内容—自我否定和诗中的反面感受力、想象力以及美。还有济慈是如何将这一理论真正融入到他的文学创作中，让我们看到了消极中的“积极的因素”—想象力以及美。诗人用他虔诚的心所创作的诗歌，将永远留在我们心中，济慈也用这种方式向我们证明了他的不朽。
