ABSTRACT:Autonomous learning refers to the ability to make learners’ own decisions about what to do rather than being influenced by someone else or told what to do. With increasingly accelerating renewal of knowledge nowadays, learning has been more vital than ever before. Therefore, it is of great importance for us to improve the ability of autonomous learning. 

By virtue of the questionnaires and interview, this study intends to investigate mathematics majors’ ability of English autonomous learning in Honghe University and find their problems of English autonomous learning. According to the research data, the majority of students have positive attitudes towards autonomous learning, but they lack the right learning motivation and consciousness. Secondly, the majority has not developed the habit of planning their learning and they do not know how to make learning plans. Thirdly, students are weak in self-monitoring, self assessment and self adjusting, and they even do not know how to do it. In view of these, this study puts forward three suggestions to help improve the students’ English autonomous learning ability.

中文摘要:自主学习指学生在老师引导下独立、自主研究学习内容,掌握知识、获得能力,并能较好地运用这些知识与能力的学习方式与过程。在知识更新日益加快的当今时代,学习比以往任何时候都更加重要而紧迫,提高自主学习能力显得尤为重要。

     本研究通过问卷调查和访谈的形式,调查红河学院数学专业学生英语自主学习的能力,找出他们自主学习中存在的问题。研究数据显示大多数学生对于自主学习的态度是积极的,但缺乏正确的学习动机和意识。第二,大多数的学生没有养成规划自己学习的习惯,大多数同学不知道如何制定学习计划。第三,学生在自我监控、自我评估、自我调节方面能力较为薄弱的,甚至不知道该怎么做。针对此,作者提出三条建议以帮助学生提高英语自主学习的能力。
