Abstract
Business English correspondences,as an important bridge of the success of foreign trade,play a key role in foreign trade. Compared with the other letters, business English correspondences have fixed formats and relatively simple content. Meanwhile, in business activities, the accuracy of translating business English correspondence is directly related to the success of the foreign trade. Functional translation theory has three principles —the skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule, which play an important role in business English correspondence. Firstly, this paper can help translators understand the characteristics of foreign trade correspondences in terms of specificity, practicality and norm by studying the application of functional translation theory in business English correspondences. And then, this paper uses functional translation theory, from the aspect of the format, salutation, complimentary close and passive sentences, to explore the application of the functional translation theory in business English correspondences. Moreover, this paper combines specific examples to further explore the application of functional translation theory in business English correspondences. In conclusion, this paper summarizes that functional translation theory is the guidance of business English correspondences and it can direct translation of foreign trade activities in the future.
