Abstract: This paper analyzes the lexical features of news headlines by taking TIME as an example, including the extensive use of nouns, small words, borrowed words, new words, derivatives and conversion of part of speech. These lexical features can help non-English speaking learners to better understand what the news conveys. Through analyzing the using ratio of the vocabulary in TIME, this paper aims to emphasize that the news headline plays an important role in the news report.
