【摘要】：互联网络的普及给人们的工作生活带来很大的方便，人们可以通过网络来浏览信息、查资料、聊天、收发邮件、网上购物、资料下载。同时人们也一直在致力于通过网络来传输多媒体资料，从起初的提供多媒体资料下载到现在的在线观看，人们无需经过漫长的下载等待过程，只要经过短暂的延时就能观看或听到自己所选媒体资料，这就现在流行的视频点播应用。
现在搞视频点播的公司很多，这方面的应用软件也不少，但有一家公司多年来一直在为大家免费提供在线视频服务支持，却长期没被大家所意识到，这就是微软公司。本文以微软流媒体服务器为基础，用它来实现视频点播、视频广播，实现实况转播及其它方面的一些应用，还介绍了有关流媒体技术的一些基础知识，从而为流媒体应用系统提供了解决途径。
